A burst pipe is a plumbing failure, not a weather event. This area has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate, so splits come from worn fittings, pressure surges, corrosion or a loose connection, and the response is the same whatever the cause. Water from a break moves quickly, so water extraction usually begins within the first stage of the job.
Stopping the water first
The main valve comes first, then the power to wet rooms if outlets or the panel are near the water. A plumber repairs or replaces the failed section. Only after the supply is secure does the restoration crew begin extraction, because drying equipment cannot work against a running leak.
Where the water hides
Supply water travels down inside walls, along joists and into the ceiling below. The crew checks the wall at the break, the floor under it and the ceiling beneath, and opens small sections of drywall to confirm whether insulation and framing are holding water.
